The Cali Baja Bi-National Mega-Region is a globally unique bi-national territory in the United States and Mexico border region, between California-U.S. and Baja California-Mexico, facing the Pacific Ocean and Asia. The region has a combined population of more than 7.1 million residents, the largest concentration of population along the U.S-Mexico border and a dynamic labor force of 3.8 million. A territory that covers over 35,000 square miles, it integrates the Counties of San Diego and Imperial in the southern end of the State of California, and the 5 Municipalities of the State of Baja California, Mexico; Urban areas represent less than 10% of the total territory.

Cali Baja is well connected to major commercial hubs by land, sea, and air. Companies operating within the region have access to three major international airports - San Diego, Tijuana and Mexicali - two deep-sea commercial ports - San Diego and Ensenada - rail connections to the north and east - Union Pacific and BNSF Railway - as well as modern roads connecting to Los Angeles, Arizona, Sonora and Baja California Sur. Cross-border commercial activities are facilitated by three commercial Ports of Entry, Otay Mesa, Calexico West, and Tecate - with the capacity for FAST and CT-PAT customs programs that enable the movement of goods between the two countries in less than 2 hours.

International Border Crossings: A distinguishing feature of this Bi-National region is the Cross-Border dynamics, over 72 Million people crossed the border into the California Points of Entry, during November 2016 to October 2017, about the same amount would cross South into Baja California. Within the region, there are 7 Points of Entry that connect California and Baja California, for all types of travel (Pedestrians, Cars, Trucks) including an Innovative Bi-National Airport Terminal, called Cross Border Xpress (CBX) that allows passengers landing in the Tijuana International Airport to walk across to San Diego, California within a private bridge and a terminal equipped with U.S. customs and immigration facilities, offering convenience and safety.

The Tijuana Airport has two direct flights to China, one to Shanghai and another to Beijing, the first through Aeromexico Mexican airline and the second through Hainan Airlines. The Tijuana International Airport also has a new state of the art Air Cargo facility, operated by Matrix Cargo, with major operations from FEDEX, UPS and DHL, among others. The cargo facility has its own Mexican Customs facilities allowing shipments to move immediately and reducing transfer times by 70%. Facilities include a platform to receive air cargo of many capacities, warehouses for the storage of various types of merchandise including those of specialized handling of import, export and storage, as well as freezers for the storage of perishable products that are all monitored and supervised by security systems with cutting edge technology monitoring 24 hours a day. Additionally the San Diego International airport offers Daily non-stop flights to Tokyo(Narita Airport) Japan, through Japan Airlines(JAL).

The Sea-Port of Ensenada Container Terminal (EIT) in Baja California is operated by Hutchison Ports, the port and related services division of CK Hutchison Holdings Limited (CK Hutchison) headquartered in Hong Kong. EIT is located 110km south of the US-Mexico border along the Pacific Ocean. In recent years, EIT has undergone extensive redevelopment involving quay construction, dredging and new equipment purchases and today is one of Mexico’s few specialized container terminals. Its infrastructure includes: Static capacity of 7,500 TEUs, 480 m of quay, 15 m depth, 2 berth positions (300 m and 180 m) and 14.4 ha of total area. Shipping Lines with services at EIT include: HL (Hapag Lloyd), APL, MOL (Mitsui O.S.K. Lines), NYK Line (Nippon Yusen Kaisha), CSCL (China Shipping Container Lines), Maersk Line and CMA CGM.

The Port of San Diego is California´s specialty cargo gateway to the Pacific, situated in the natural, deep-water harbor of San Diego Bay. Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal is a 96-acre complex with four working berths and specializes in break-bulk, refrigerated, and dry bulk cargo. National City Marine Terminal specializes in the transportation of Automobiles, it is just ten miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, with 135-acres with on dock rails and easy access to roadways.
